The 2016 Big Super Day Out will be held on the 24th of June in Sydney.
The Big Super Day Out is a free community event designed to encourage Indigenous Australians to engage with their superannuation and plan for retirement.
The event is organised by the First Nations Foundation, and is supported by the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST) and superannuation funds AustralianSuper and Cbus.
“Unfortunately superannuation hasn’t always delivered for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People – the Big Super Day Out is one step towards addressing this issue. Cbus is pleased to support this valuable initiative,” said Cbus CEO David Atkin.
Cbus says that attendees at the event in Sydney later this month will be able to obtain general advice and support about superannuation, consolidate their super fund accounts, check for unclaimed super, and enjoy live music and a BBQ.
The event will be held on Friday the 24th of June between 3pm and 7pm, at the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) in Redfern.
More details can be found here.
Attendees are advised they will need to bring two of the following documents:
- PAYG Summary
- ATO notice of assessment
- CentreLink payment Summary
- Superannuation summary
- Bank account details
The First Nations Foundation also has a Sort Your Super checklist.
Amanda Young, First Nations Foundation CEO, said: “Super is a hot topic in the Indigenous community nationally. To encourage our First Nations people to get more involved with their superannuation we have used this outreach model, partnering with an Indigenous community centre and the superannuation sector.
“It has been hugely successful and shows the super sector what works in the Indigenous space. We are delighted at the support from Cbus in bringing our Big Super Day Out to Sydney and later in the year, to Melbourne.”
The Melbourne Big Super Day Out is planned for 8 October 2016.
