The 2018 SMSF Association Technical Day Series will have a strong focus on getting the fundamentals of SMSFs right.
The Association’s Head of Education & Technical, Peter Hogan, said advisers who attended the Technical Day Series would benefit from the expertise of the five key speakers.
“Individuals establish SMSFs for the control it gives them to achieve their retirement income goals, and these sessions will provide fresh insights for advisers on how they can help their clients meet this worthwhile ambition,” he said.
“In particular, there will an emphasis on advisers’ legal responsibilities when they are either advising individuals on setting up a fund or when assuming responsibility for an established fund.”
Hogan said an address by representatives of the ATO, titled ‘fledgling SMSFs – the first 18 months of an SMSF’s life’, would be “highly instructive”.
Other topics include ‘tips and traps when taking on new trustees’, ‘asset ownership for retirement: structuring investments the clever way’, ‘the bricks and mortar of holding property in a SMSF’ and ‘SMSF insurance strategies for 2018 and beyond’.
The conference series starts in Adelaide in August:
