Government calls for submissions to brought forward 2019/20 Budget

The Government is calling for submissions for its brought forward 2019/20 Federal Budget, which is expected to be held in early April.

“The Government is seeking submissions from individuals, businesses and community groups on their views regarding priorities for the 2019-20 Budget,” said a statement from Assistant Minister for Treasury and Finance Zed Seselja.

“The 2019-20 Budget will reflect the Government’s plan to keep the economy strong and guarantee the essential services on which Australians rely.”

In November last year the Prime Minister announced that the 2018/19 Budget would be brought forward from the second Tuesday in May to April 2nd. This has been taken as implying a Federal Election in May. Although Malcolm Turnbull has called on the PM to go to an election sooner, suggesting March 2nd. This would involve calling the election in late January, meaning the Parliament wouldn’t sit as scheduled in February.

Submissions for the 2019/20 Budget are due by close of business Friday 1st February 2019. Details on how to make a submission can be found on the Treasury website.
